the power of people: family, community and respect

This painting, Winter Shimmer, was very enjoyable to create. I was very immersed in the painting process. It puts me in mind of my rather groovy childhood of playing outside in the Canadian winters. We skated every winter. It was awesome.
This painting also speaks of other important things such as the power of family, community and having respect for others. When we care for others, we grow ourselves.
As a person with high functioning autism (Asperger's), I had times when I was very self-involved. This is not very healthy. It's also not cool to treat people with this egotistical attitude. When we take the focus off ourselves, we can bloom as people. We suddenly see what it's like to feel the smile of a sweet child, or elderly person who has something to teach us, or the value of an excellent and caring teacher.
Next time that you happen to notice an outstanding person, one who contributes something positive to our world, tell them of their value. You may just make someone's day. XO.
