Spirit of the Tundra

I think I'm turning into a "dog guy".  I'm not sure how that happened, or when it happened, but it did.  This is my latest piece, Spirit of the Tundra and it was inspired by a photo one of my Facebook friends had on her timeline of her dog.  There was something about the picture that spoke to me and compelled me to paint.  As I painted,  this sweet little fella took on a life of his own.  I really love him!  He's just so proud, standing there, steadfast, amid the snow and ice of the north; a faithful companion.   His eyes are as warm as his kisses, yet as keen as any human I've ever met.  His bark is booming and rich, a fearsome hunter and protector, but somehow, even at over 100 pounds, he thinks he's a lap dog and wants to cuddle. He loves to run through the snow, but he'll never leave your side.  I could probably hitch a sled up to him, but I think he's just as happy making his snow tunnels and chasing his tail.
