Have you ever noticed that crows watch us. They watch closely. They are serious survivors, and so they need to be. Nature can be cruel. The elements have no sympathy.
This piece, Night Watch, shows a mystical crow in the moonlight. What secrets could the crow tell? What crazy or lovely things could the crow relay? We shall never know, but would we really want to?
Crows have been the subject for so many things such as evil, good, animal totem power, messengers for the Other Side/Spirit World, messengers for the dead, hated corn crop eaters, nuisances, foe to farmers, friends to the homeless, friends of the wolf, friends to the native person, feared, loved, a pet, something to holler at or throw rocks at, subject for many artists, subject of many book, and so on. I can say that when I paint them in my own way, something interesting happens. I find I feel playful.
However you feel about the crow, there's one thing for sure, they have become a huge part of culture. They are giants of our age and the New Age.
Maybe, next time you're out and about, you'll think to observe them as closely as they are surely observing you.
