This is my latest piece, Mystic Moonlight. I just completed it about 10 minutes ago and it involves two of my favourite things and that makes it pretty special. Everyone knows about my affection for crows, but did you also know that I have a great love for and fascination with owls? Well, I do. Owls are awesome! They're fascinating for many reasons. First they're amazing predators, they may not look like it, but they are some tough critters and they can hunt like you wouldn't believe! They're solitary, which I like and you hardly ever see them. That elusiveness, I suppose, adds to their mystique.
My other favourite thing (I did say the piece depicted two), is the moon. If you've followed my work, you'll notice that the moon appears quite a bit. I've always been a bit of a night owl (pun intended). I've never been a "day guy". I never liked getting up for school, or work or any of that. For me, the daytime just feels like an obligatory chunk of hours in which we're compelled to trudge through the necessities of life. You know, shopping, banking, making appointments, blah, blah, blah. But when the sun begins to go down, Carl wakes up! There's something about the darkness of night and the brilliant shine of the moon that makes me feel alive! I feel more comfortable, happier, more energized and just really more like myself. And now, with the hot weather here, the night has the added bonus of being cooler. There's nothing I enjoy more than putting on a pot of coffee, getting out the paints and staying up until the sun comes up, painting and chatting with Misty. It's the best! So there you have it, one painting and two of my favourite things, enjoy.
