Made ya look by calling it a selfie, didn't I? Ha ha. Those that know me know I detest selfies, the trend of one taking and posting photos of themselves, seemingly incessantly with their mobiles. Such sustained narcissism is, in my opinion, the province of the young or the very attractive. A man of almost 48 should have his "adult card" taken for participating in such tomfoolery.
Now that my mini-rant is over, I used the word "selfie" to refer to self portrait, which is something I completed last night. It's different than the traditional, expected self portrait, but if you expected a realistic painting of a chubby dude, you got the wrong guy!
This is the most deeply personal piece I think I've ever painted. Granted, all my work is deeply personal and I leave a bit of my soul on each canvas. I suppose what I mean to say is this one is the most intensely personal. This is me in paint. Perhaps not an accurate physical representation, but then a gain, you know how I feel about realism.... if you want an accurate physical representation of me, there's a nice photo on my about page. Sorry it's in black and white, but there comes a time when black and white forgive the sins of aging (that apology was, as the kids say "sorry, not sorry, LOL).
